Note: To successfully apply the instructions below, you must have a Skysnag account. If you haven’t created one yet, click here to do so.

Step 1: Log in to Your DreamHost Account

  1. Go to the DreamHost website.
  2. Log in using your account credentials.
  3. Once logged in, navigate to the Domains section of your DreamHost panel.

Step 2: Access the DNS Management Section

  1. From the Domains section, click on Manage Domains.
  2. Find the domain you want to manage and click the DNS link next to it. This will take you to the DNS management page where you can add or edit DNS records.

Step 3: Add the CNAME Record for DMARC

  • Scroll down to the Add a Custom DNS Record section.
  • In the form, enter the following details:
    • Record Type: Select CNAME from the dropdown menu.
    • Name/Host: Enter _dmarc (this applies to the DMARC configuration).
    • Value/Target: Enter {your-domain-name}.protect._d.skysnag.com. Replace {your-domain-name} with your actual domain name, e.g., example.com.protect._d.skysnag.com.
    • TTL: You can leave this as Default or choose the lowest option for faster propagation.
  • Click Add Record to save the new CNAME record.

Step 4: Wait for DNS Propagation

  1. After saving the record, allow some time for DNS propagation. This can take anywhere from a few minutes up to 24 hours.

Step 5: Verify the Skysnag CNAME Record

  1. Log in to your Skysnag dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the domain where you added the CNAME record.
  3. Click the Verify button to confirm that the Skysnag DMARC CNAME record is configured properly.
  4. Once verified, Skysnag will automatically manage your DMARC policies and begin generating email security reports.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Record Not Propagating? Ensure the CNAME record is correctly entered and allow up to 24 hours for full DNS propagation.
  • Existing DMARC TXT Record Conflict? If you already have a DMARC TXT record, you may need to remove or update it to prevent conflicts with the new Skysnag CNAME record.
  • Need Help from DreamHost? DreamHost offers customer support and a comprehensive knowledge base to assist with DNS management issues.

By following these steps, you have successfully added the Skysnag DMARC CNAME record to your domain in DreamHost. Skysnag will now automatically manage your DMARC policies, ensuring your domain is protected from email threats.
