Step 1: Log in to Your DigitalOcean Account

  1. Go to the DigitalOcean website.
  2. Log in using your account credentials.
  3. In your DigitalOcean dashboard, navigate to the Networking tab.

Step 2: Access the Domain’s DNS Management Section

  1. Under the Networking tab, select Domains.
  2. Choose the domain you wish to manage by clicking on the domain name in the list of available domains.
  3. This will open the DNS settings page for that domain.

Step 3: Add the CNAME Record for DMARC

  1. In the DNS settings page, scroll down to the Create New Record section.
  2. Fill in the following details:
  • Type: Select CNAME from the dropdown list.
  • Host/Name: Enter _dmarc (this applies specifically to DMARC-related records).
  • Target/Value: Enter {your-domain-name}.protect._d.skysnag.com. Replace {your-domain-name} with your actual domain, for example: example.com.protect._d.skysnag.com.
  • TTL: Set this to the default value or the lowest TTL to allow for quicker propagation.
  • Once you’ve filled in the information, click Create Record to save the new CNAME record.

Step 4: Wait for DNS Propagation

  1. After adding the CNAME record, wait for the DNS changes to propagate. This process can take anywhere from a few minutes up to 24 hours.

Step 5: Verify the Skysnag CNAME Record

  1. Log in to your Skysnag dashboard.
  2. In the dashboard, locate the domain where you added the CNAME record.
  3. Click the Verify button to confirm that the Skysnag DMARC CNAME record has been correctly configured.
  4. Once verified, Skysnag will manage your DMARC policies and generate email security reports automatically.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Record Not Propagating? Double-check the CNAME record details and ensure you’ve entered the correct information. Wait up to 24 hours for DNS propagation.
  • Existing DMARC TXT Record Conflict? If you have a DMARC TXT record, you may need to remove or modify it to avoid conflicts with the new CNAME record.
  • Need Help from DigitalOcean? If you experience issues, DigitalOcean offers customer support and comprehensive documentation to assist with DNS configurations.

By following these steps, you have successfully added the Skysnag DMARC CNAME record to your domain in DigitalOcean. Skysnag will now automatically manage your DMARC compliance and email security, protecting your domain from potential email threats.
