DMARC record configuration for Bluehost (US)

This step-by-step guide will help you add a Skysnag DMARC CNAME record to your domain using Bluehost as your DNS provider. This integration will allow Skysnag to manage your DMARC policies and email security automatically.

Note: To successfully apply the instructions below, you must have a Skysnag account. If you haven’t created one yet, click here to do so.

Step 1: Log in to Your Bluehost Account

  1. Go to the Bluehost website.
  2. Log in using your account credentials.
  3. In the Bluehost dashboard, locate the Domains tab and select the domain you want to configure from the list.

Step 2: Access the DNS Management Section

  • In the Domains section, click on the DNS tab next to the domain you selected. This will open the DNS management page where you can add, modify, or remove DNS records for your domain.

Step 3: Add the CNAME Record for DMARC

  • Scroll down to the DNS Records section and click the Add Record button.
  • In the record form, input the following details:
    • Type: Select CNAME from the dropdown menu.
    • Host/Name: Enter _dmarc (this is for DMARC-specific records).
    • Points to/Value: Enter {your-domain-name}.protect._d.skysnag.com. Replace {your-domain-name} with your actual domain, e.g., example.com.protect._d.skysnag.com.
    • TTL: You can leave it set to Default or choose a lower TTL if you prefer faster propagation.
  • After entering the details, click Save to add the new CNAME record.

Step 4: Wait for DNS Propagation

  • Once the CNAME record is added, allow some time for DNS propagation, which may take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours.

Step 5: Verify the Skysnag CNAME Record

  1. Log in to your Skysnag dashboard.
  2. Find your domain in the Skysnag dashboard where you added the CNAME record.
  3. Click the Verify button to confirm the CNAME record is correctly configured.
  4. Once verified, Skysnag will automatically begin managing your DMARC policies and providing email security reports.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Record Not Propagating? If the CNAME record doesn’t propagate within a few hours, double-check the details and allow up to 24 hours for DNS propagation.
  • Existing DMARC TXT Record Conflict? If you have an existing DMARC TXT record, consider removing or updating it to avoid conflicts with the new Skysnag CNAME record.
  • Need Bluehost Help? Bluehost offers support via chat, phone, or their help center for any DNS management issues.

By following these steps, you’ve successfully added the Skysnag DMARC CNAME record to your Bluehost-hosted domain. Skysnag will now automatically manage your DMARC policies and reporting, ensuring improved email security and compliance.
